ELT well assessment session
If you have a particular student whose support needs you would like to discuss, an assessment consultation will be the answer.
It is not always easy to decide whether a student's difficulties are due to language differences or underlying difficulties in learning. Standardized tests have to be carefully adapted to make them suitable for use in a multilingual context. By assessing their underlying learning strategies, observing the students in class, and discussing with both the learners and the staff how support can be given to greatest effect, ELT well can help you ensure that all your students fulfil their potential, and that you meet your responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act.
This year a pilot project at Blackpool and the Fylde College enabled more than 20 ESOL learners to obtain the exam access arrangements they needed and were entitled to. This project is continuing next year, as more data are collected and the tests are refined. If you have learners whom you feel would have benefitted from access arrangements, but did not know how to apply, contact ELT well to find out more.
Very often it is small changes in how classes are organised that will enable students with disabilities or learning differences to thrive in the language classroom. Other students will feel the benefit too! Occasionally, technology or specialist equipment can help, and ELT well are happy to advise on this too.
Follow-up support is always available, for as long as you need it.
