ELT well workshops
Opportunities for professional development can be hard to fit into a busy term, but good teachers know how vital on-going training is for maintaining high standards, and building career momentum.
The Disability Discrimination Act (1995) now applies to all educational establishments, requiring teachers to anticipate individual needs and make reasonable adjustments in order to accomodate disabilities and learning difficulties or differences.
Are you ready to meet these responsibilities?
ELT well workshops offer you the chance to explore the issues when and where it suits you:
- Choose either half-day (or evening) workshops, or one-day workshops.
- Hold them in your own workplace, or a convenient venue of your choice.
All workshops cover the new legal requirements, and enough of the theoretical background to help you understand why some learners have difficulty with language learning. But the main focus is always on practical approaches to working with learners who have disabilities or other difficulties - how you can make a difference in your classroom.
You can choose from the following topics:
half-day workshops:
- Supporting language learners with a hearing impairment
- Supporting language learners with a visual impairment
- Supporting language learners with specific learning differences (dyslexia, dyspraxia)
- Supporting language learners with emotional and behavioural difficulties (AD/HD, Asperger's syndrome)
- Supporting language learners with physical disabilities and chronic illnesses
one-day workshops:
- Supporting language learners with sensory impairments
- Supporting language learners with emotional and specific learning differences
- Choose any two of the half-day options
or suggest your own programme, which can be tailored to suit the particular needs of your school or department.
